Chinese Cemetery

If you know me you probably know I have a fascination with cemeteries. So whenever we travel I like to see that part of the culture.  When David came to China ten years ago he discovered this little Buddhist cemetery on a hill by where they were building the SPX facility.  We climbed up there.  It was a dusty little trail you could hardly follow by a little Buddhist (monkery) temple?  I don't know what.  All I remember is some monks sitting in their courtyard playing cards and they had their purple sheets out to dry.  Now that is a memory!

This time they had a big staircase up to the cemetery, but the staircase was a mess all littered and broken.  Even at the highest point there had been a cool little lookout, now it was pulled apart with broken bottles all around.  This first picture is the filthy mess beside that lookout. Those are tombstones with a stone fence around them.

Where there had been a little temple there is now a huge complex with a reflecting pond and what looks like a hotel or retreat center.  I wish I knew the rest of the story.

The cemetery is to the right and to our left is a huge gateway
and "hotel?"

  3. They do that in Owatonna too. I haven't seen it yet. But I think that is what goes on in my head when I visit a cemetery, imagining who that person was and what their life had been like.

This cemetery was such a mess with broken beer bottles and trash. It used to be hard to access, but now it's fairly easy to get to it. It makes me so mad to see the disrespect. I suppose the next thing will be that no one will be able to go to it.
