So much of our time in China is spent deciding where we're going to eat. The next question is who is going with us. Yesterday was just a miserable cold, rainy dark day. I thought I would go crazy.
And then Dave's friend Mike called to see if we could meet him and his family for lunch! Yeah!
I like this photo of Dave I took while we were waiting.
(If you can, zoom in on that couch. Yeow. Creepy upholstery.)
It is so fun to get to know people here. Mike is from Toronto, married to Nancy. Her mother lives with them. They have two children. I was hoping to meet their daughter, Michelle who is 2 years old, but she was napping and they assured me that this was for the best. They also have a 13 year old son, Justin who I often see hanging out with Mike. Nancy was so comfortable to get to know. She works in HR for a company in Shanghai. She is gone all week and returns for the weekend.
Angela and Joey were wonderful for me to finally meet. We got together at a Thai Restaurant in a Japanese shopping center. Angela is Chinese. Her son Joey's dad was from the U.K. and recently died in an accident. They will be moving to the U.K. so Joey can go to school there.
I learned about milkshakes in the Indian Restaurant from Mark's son, Charlie. What can you do but eat when you're watching the Malaysian Grand Prix with a bunch a guys? Charlie had chocolate and I had a mango. So good.
This was one of our first dinners with groups from work. I think this is the production team. It's embarrassing how much I can eat because I want to try everything. All the little Chinese women are able to eat just a little of this and a little of that. This was a typical Chinese restaurant.
The turntable just keeps going 'round and 'round. So delicious.
This is what you eat when you happen to be at Dave's company for lunch. Of course, the servers want to be Dave's best friend, so they really load his plate. He has learned that he doesn't have to eat it all. A great way to do dishes too. You just pull the plastic bag off the tray with the uneaten food in it.
