Birthday Cakes

One of my friends asked what a Chinese birthday cake looked like.  I have only been to one birthday party and the cake was similar to these, except when you lit the candle the plastic flower it was in opened and started spinning and sparkling.  I'm sure my mom would remember that, she was with us.

Which reminds me, there are fireworks here every day. I thought it was for grand openings or weddings, but it is for birthdays, anniversaries, I bought a new car, we moved to a new apartment celebrations too.  They go off anywhere, like across the parking lot from our apartment.  They were big fireworks too, like we have on the fourth of July.  I wonder what they were celebrating.  I thought the police were going to show up any minute.

These are some cakes I saw in a bakery window yesterday.
The actual cake is really light and tastes kind of fake.

  1. It might seem fake except for the calories...ha! They are really beautiful creations and similar to what you would find in a fine bakery in the states. They don't use chopsticks for these do they??
