Miss you David

It is such a delight to be able to have the grandkids come for the weekend.  It really makes me appreciate what my son and daughter-in-law do every day for one thing.  There is never a dull moment with these three.  The day started out with Ava's kindergarten show.  Amazing.  They sang so many songs I could hardly believe it.  My favorite and judging by Ava's face her favorite too was when their principal sang "It's a Beautiful World" with them.  Oh yeah.
We picked up a pizza on the way home and had root beer floats.  We almost had to call the root beer police because Eliah  kept making them overflow when he added root beer.
Saturday morning we set out to Lowe's to get flower pots for Mama for Mother's Day.  Nikolai immediately put his on his head and became a pothead (hmmm) and the other two followed suit.  They were so funny.  It's weird, when you are the grandma you have much more time for these shenanigans.
Next we took the pots to the plant section to choose flowers to match their pots.  Ava was so sweet, "What about Grandma Nelson?"  (Great-grandma)  So we made one for her too.
Next we went to Cabela's because they were so good.  Nikolai was especially fascinated with all the animals.  We took our sweet time looking at everything there.  I really wish David would have been with us.
Did you know they had ice cream there? How to eat it though????
Even Ava needed a little help with the finer points of making a hole in the bottom and sucking the melting ice cream out.

We found the perfect fishing hats.  Eliah kept wanting to get to the fish and fishing gear section.
We tried out all the pontoons.  They loved this.
I really got a kick out of this.  Exact replicas of my own three kids.  Aaron/Eliah driving, Rebekah/Ava lounging around doing nothing and Levi/Nikolai checking everything out.
The kids always know when they are almost to Grandpa & Grandma's house when they see the three jets alongside the freeway, so I took them to see them up close and personal.  Nikkels said, "We are almost to Oh-No-Tonna."  Ava said, "No, Owatonna."  While we were there the groundskeeper/maintenance guy came out and said they had some cool airplanes in the hangar if we wanted to see them.  Can you believe that?

Tim from the Air National Guard asked the kids if they wanted to sit in the airplane?  YES!!!
Nikolai was a little too scared to have the top put down, but not the other two.
I don't see these two as pilot/co-pilot anytime in the near future or ever.  They were both trying to steer their own way in this little Cessna 150 and couldn't figure out why it didn't work.  Is Eliah glowing or what?
Becky sneaked in to my room while we were reading a Dr. Seuss book to take a picture.  Even Henry was enjoying the story.  Again, a sweet memory of our own kids.
On to Mother's Day.  It struck me that I had room in my yard for a fort.  Not a fancy one designed and built perfectly, but one like my siblings and I and our kids used to make with scraps we dug out from the dump/garage/basement.  Levi and Aaron were game so we began something that I think will be a work in progress this summer.
I love this picture.  Eliah was supercharged and became the contractor.
We also had a puppy to help.
This little girl has big plans.
I have a great idea for finishing this little cottage off, but Katri informs me I'll have to figure out a way to make the contractor think it was his idea.  hmmm.

I think they will have some fun times in this little fort.
David, I wish you would have been here.

Oh yeah, Eliah reminded me that they never got to go to the park this weekend.  Really?

    1. Barb, you'll have to come over and I'll tell you about my idea and see if you can help me talk the contractor into it. Maybe you could bake some cookies or something.
